Punk Island 2010

Punk Island returns for a third year in 2010, with more than 130 of the country’s loudest bands transforming the ordinarily quiet Governors Island into a daylong punk/hardcore paradise.

Bands will perform on 18 stages scattered around the island, as free ferries transport revelers from Lower Manhattan and DUMBO to Governors Island every half hour, beginning at 10am.

Because Governors Island is closed on the day of Make Music New York, Punk Island will take place the day before, on Sunday, June 20th. Just like the rest of MMNY, all performances are outdoors and completely free.

Punk Island is curated by Miguel “Slug” Torres of Fat Bastard Productions.

What You Need To Know

Punk Island begins at 10am and ends at 5pm sharp. Free ferries leave every 30 minutes from the Battery Maritime Building in Battery Park, Manhattan, and every 20 minutes from the Fulton Ferry Landing in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Ferry service from Manhattan begins at 10am; service from Brooklyn begins at 11am.

No alcoholic beverages, pets, or weapons are permitted on Governors Island.

Once you arrive, programs will be available at the Punk Island registration table. Water, snacks, and soft drinks will be for sale, along with Punk Island shirts, stickers and posters. All proceeds from refreshments and merchandise go towards the Punk Island production expenses.

Directions to Battery Maritime Building: Take the 1 to South Ferry, the 4/5 to Bowling Green, or the N/W to Whitehall St. Walk south to the Staten Island Ferry terminal. The Battery Maritime Building is next door, 25 yard to the east along the water.

Directions to Fulton Ferry Landing: Take the 2/3 to Clark St, or the A/C to High St. Walk north on Henry Street until the end, then take a left onto Old Fulton St and continue four blocks until you reach the water.
